Sarah Ruhl is an American playwright, professor, and essayist. Originally from Chicago, Ruhl received her M.F.A. from Brown University.

In The Next Room is one of 17 plays Sarah Ruhl has written. In the Next Room was a finalist for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and was nominated for the 2010 Tony Award for Best Play, Best Featured Actress, and Best Costume.
